Medellin is one of the most popular cities in Colombia, especially for tourists. And during the past 10 years it has quickly evolved into one of the most visited places in the region.
It was founded in 1616 by a Spaniard named Francisco. Currently ranks 2nd for population in Colombia.
Medellin was once considered extremely dangerous. This was because it was home to one of the worlds most infamous drug lords. You may have heard of him — Pablo Escobar.
During the 1980’s and 1990’s this place was kind of like a “no go” zone in Latin America. Even the local Colombians were living in fear. The violence and blood shed that wreaked havoc in the city was almost unbearable for some.
But now the majority of the over violence and drug activities have been reduced. Thanks to increased tourism, and an active governement enforcing safety, things are much better than before.
But this does not mean that all the gang violence and narcotics trafficking has stopped. It may still take place, but with more covert tactics. And much less infront of the tourist visited areas of Medellin.
But the truth still remains. Running into sex, prostitution, and drugs is still a reality of Medellin.
A big majority of tourism in Medellin is powered by the males who visit it. They come from all walks of life, ages, and nationalities. And a majority of them come for the Colombian women.
The Medellin nightlife is also famous. It has plenty of bars, restaurants, and red light district areas that are excellent. They are fun, lively, and sure to please for all travelers.
The city is also known as the “city of eternal spring”. This is in reference to the weather which is known to be spring-like year round.
Medellin is one of the best places to visit in Colombia, especially for single male tourists. As of 2017 the population of Medellin is about 2.5 million.
